Dewatering Systems

PSI Dewatering Systems are designed to reclaim water or oil from drilling fluid waste. They separate water from suspended solids through chemical and/or mechanical means and then recirculate it, cutting out the wasted time and expense of bringing clean water onsite and of disposing of the now reduced amount of solid waste.

Designed for construction dewatering, mining pit management, and oilfield drilling fluid reclamation for a construction site or a fully containerized unit for long-term oilfield use.

Construction Dewatering Pumps & Systems

Construction dewatering is one of the most critical phases of any ground-up project. Excavations, tunneling, and below-grade foundation work all generate groundwater accumulation that must be managed before structural work can proceed safely.

Why Construction Sites need Dewatering Equipment

Construction dewatering is one of the most critical phases of any ground-up project. Excavations, tunneling, and below-grade foundation work all generate groundwater accumulation that must be managed before structural work can proceed safely.

Standard submersible pumps struggle with the solids content typical of construction site water — sediment-laden groundwater, slurry runoff, and mixed fluid from drilling operations. PSI’s industrial dewatering systems handle suspended solids through chemical and mechanical treatment, preventing pump clogging and processing water at high capacity throughout active construction phases.

How Dewatering Systems Work

PSI dewatering systems use chemical and mechanical separation to reclaim water or oil from drilling fluid waste. Suspended solids are separated from the liquid stream and processed, allowing the reclaimed water to be recirculated back into operations — eliminating the cost of trucking in clean water and significantly reducing the volume of solid waste requiring disposal.

Application

Each system is fully customized to your application, available in containerized all-weather enclosures or open-air configurations. All systems include:

  • VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) control panel
  • Mix tank and centrate tank
  • Polymer feed pump system (3 pumps)
  • Acid pump
  • Inlet manifold with vertical agitator
  • A/C and heating unit (containerized)
  • Exhaust fan and electrical control panel

Available flow capacity: Up to 250 GPM
Certification: Class 1 Division 2

Mining Dewatering Pumps

Mining operations, both surface and underground, generate continuous water management challenges. Open-pit mines accumulate groundwater that must be continuously removed to keep the working face accessible and safe. Underground mines face active inflow and require high-capacity dewatering systems that operate continuously.

PSI mining dewatering systems are sized and configured for these demands:

  • High-capacity dewatering pump systems up to 250 GPM for large-volume pit dewatering
  • Class 1 Div 2 certified equipment for use in mining environments with explosive gas risk
  • Containerized units with full climate control for remote mine site deployment
  • Compatible with PSI screw conveyor and material handling systems for integrated solids management

The chemical and mechanical separation process used in PSI dewatering systems is particularly effective in mining applications where water contains abrasive solids, fine particulates, and chemical contamination from blasting operations.

Oilfield & Drilling Fluid Dewatering

PSI’s dewatering systems were originally engineered for oilfield drilling fluid reclamation, a demanding application that requires processing large volumes of fluid containing drilling mud solids, cuttings, and chemical additives.

FAQs

K
L
What is a dewatering system?

A dewatering system separates water from suspended solids in waste fluid, drilling mud, construction site groundwater, or mining pit inflow. PSI's systems use chemical treatment (polymer injection) and mechanical separation to clarify the liquid, then recirculate it back into operations. Less fresh water trucked in. Less solid waste hauled out.

K
L
How much can a PSI dewatering system process?

Up to 250 GPM. Each unit is custom-engineered to your specific flow rate and fluid type — from a single construction excavation to continuous oilfield drilling fluid processing.

K
L
What is the difference between a containerized and open-air dewatering unit?

A containerized unit encloses all components in a weather-hardened enclosure with A/C and heating, built for remote or long-duration oilfield and mining deployments. An open-air unit uses the same separation components without the enclosure, lighter and lower cost for temporary construction site use where the system will be relocated frequently. PSI builds both configurations.

K
L
What does Class 1 Division 2 mean on a dewatering system?

It means the electrical components are certified for environments where flammable gases or vapors may be present, required for active oilfield drilling sites and underground mining operations. PSI dewatering systems are available in Class 1 Div 2 configuration for direct hazardous area deployment.

K
L
Can a dewatering system reclaim water from oilfield drilling fluid?

Yes, it's one of PSI's core applications. The system separates water from drilling mud solids and chemical additives through polymer injection and centrifugal separation. The recovered water recirculates back into operations. What remains is a reduced volume of solid waste at a fraction of the original haul-off cost.

What is inside a PSI dewatering system?

The containerized unit includes: inlet manifold, vertical agitator, mix tank, three polymer feed pumps, acid pump, centrate tank, 3x2x13 centrifugal pump, VFD electrical control panel, exhaust fan, and A/C and heating unit — all on a single skid inside a weather-hardened enclosure.

What industries use industrial dewatering systems?

Oil and gas drilling, construction and civil infrastructure, mining, water and wastewater treatment, and industrial manufacturing. PSI customizes each unit to match the specific operating conditions of each industry.
